This family owned ambulance service was founded in 1938 by James Kahler. Kahler operated the service out of his home with one ambulance in his fleet. At this time Omaha Ambulance was the only ambulance service in the city. In 1943 Kahler sold the company to his brother in law Clyde Rine. The company added a second ambulance at this time and continued to be operated out of the Rine’s home. For the next twenty four years the company continued to grow. In 1967 the company opened its first corporate office and station. The station housed five ambulances and staffed twenty four hours a day. Calls were still forwarded to the Rine’s home after business hours and then dispatched to the station. With all the rapid changes in emergency medical services, including the upcoming 911 system and Omaha Fire adding ambulances to its fleet, in the early 1970’s the company started training all staff to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians. In 1978 the company was sold to Clyde Rine’s son C. Michael Rine who still owns and operates the business today. In 1980 the company added specialized transportation to its services. This includes the use of wheelchair and ambulatory vans to transport wheelchair bound elderly and handicap individuals. The company is still growing today. Providing Advanced Life Support Ambulances, and specialized transportation vans. The Corporate Office now houses eight ambulances, fourteen wheelchair vans and three ambulatory vans. It also has a full communication center with emergency medical dispatchers. All billing to patients and clients are done at the corporate office. This company has been perseverant over time itself, and will continue to provide the best in transportation services available for many years to come. |
